Barrington R. Atkins is an educator, public servant, and community leader dedicated to advancing educational excellence and civic engagement in the City of Poughkeepsie. He serves as Principal of Poughkeepsie Middle School, where he leads initiatives focused on literacy, student achievement, and cultivating a positive, accountable school culture. Barrington is also a New York State Licensed Clinical Social Worker, bringing a people-centered and equity-driven approach to his leadership. In addition to his work in education, he represents District 9 in the Dutchess County Legislature and has been selected as Majority Leader for the 2026 term, where he works to expand opportunity, strengthen communities, and deliver results for residents. Barrington serves as President of the Northern Dutchess NAACP and as Polemarch of the Poughkeepsie Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., where he is committed to mentorship and youth development through initiatives such as Kappa League.
